Model FI with Gardner Compressor

The Model FI engine is the only early Briggs overhead valve engine with two push rods. All the other overhead valve engines use an atmosperic or vacuum operated intake valve. This engine was one of my first acquisitions and has always been a good runner. I hooked up to the small Gardner Air compressor for show purposes.

Lindsay Air Compressor

This is the Briggs/Lindsay Air Compressor that is shown on my "New Junk" page after restoration. The picture is not really good because it is mounted in my display trailer and is hard to get at. The engine is a Model ZL Briggs & Stratton engine (serial no. 1031, Nov. 1933). Interesting features of the ZL in addition to the compressor are the bronze Kingston Carburetor, aluminum crankcase, oil pan, and shroud. This saves about 40 pounds on the engine weight. The unit was built by P.K. Lindsay of Deerfield NH. This company is still in business.

I picked up this model F "Full Power" Briggs (serial no. 1043, early 1922) at the EDGE & TA Branch 27 swap meet in Paso Robles, CA. The engine was found outside of Yreka, an old mining and lumbering town in northern California. I was so eager to get it restored, that I forgot to take a "before" shot and this is what it looks like now. I now have both the magneto ignition and the spark coil ignition versions of the Model F.

Well, I finally finished Doodle Bug No. 2. This bug is a standard model and is shown in the background. Doodle Bug No. 1 is a Super model and is in the foreground. Both bugs need a few minor cosmetic items to finish them up, but they are essentially complete and running and we will be showing them this year.

1926 MotoMower

I have just finished restoring this Moto-Mower "City Model" lawnmower built in 1926. It was found in Redwood City, CA and is powered by a Briggs & Stratton Model FH engine. The engine is a very early model with serial no. 108 (built in December of 1925) and is unusual in that the serial no. is stamped into the crankcase like the earlier model F engines instead of being on a brass tag on the shroud. The engine also has a fixed jet carburetor with no needle valve which I have not seen before..
