Briggs & Stratton Model R

(Serial 1914 built in Nov. 1930)

The R series of engines was introduced by Briggs & Stratton in 1929. These engines were used in all sorts of farm and industrial applications and were reliable and economical to run.

Associated "Pony" washing machine engine

These engines were built by Associated in the late 1920's as best I can tell. They have a bad reputation as being unreliable, principally related to magneto problems. This engine is one of the few that I have seen that runs well.

Briggs & Stratton Model WMG Engine/Generator

This engine belongs to a good friend of mine, but I include the picture because I like it so much. The WMG is a basic WM engine with an integrated starter/generator to allow electric starting of the engine and recharging of the starting battery. This was used on washing machines to ease the burden of the housewife by eliminating kick-starting the engine. If anyone knows where I can get one of these, let me know.

Briggs & Stratton Model WM (before restoration)

The Model WM was the first of the small washing machine engines manufactured by Briggs and was introduced in 1936. This engine was found with an incorrect carburetor and gas tank, but otherwise was original and in good condition.

Briggs & Stratton Model WM

(Serial No. 59414, Built in April of 1937)

This is the same engine shown above after restoration with the proper carburetor, gas tank, and washing machine exhaust connection.
